Costunolide
In vitro / AnimalMechanism of Action
Research Notes
In vitro studies show IC50 of 5–20 µM against multiple cancer cell lines including HeLa, HepG2, and MCF-7. NF-κB inhibition validated across at least 12 independent inflammatory models. Limited in vivo data available; anti-cancer activity in animals is promising but clinical evidence is absent.
Costunolide is the primary bioactive sesquiterpene lactone in Saussurea costus. Extensive in vitro and animal studies demonstrate potent anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective effects.
