Erythrinine

Animal

Mechanism of Action

Contributes to the overall anxiolytic and anticonvulsant activity of the bark extract through GABAergic modulation. Also shows mild antinociceptive effects via central mechanisms.

Research Notes

MulunguSouth American

Animal studies using pentylenetetrazole-induced seizure models demonstrated anticonvulsant activity of erythrinine, suggesting GABA-potentiating effects. A 2011 Brazilian study showed the total alkaloid fraction containing erythrinine produced dose-dependent anxiolytic effects in the light-dark box and marble burying tests.
