Mechanism of Action

Branched fungal cell-wall polysaccharides recognized as pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) by the innate immune system. Bind to Dectin-1 receptor on macrophages and dendritic cells, activating downstream signaling through Syk kinase and NF-kB pathways. Enhance phagocytosis, reactive oxygen species production, and pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion. Support antioxidant defense by enhancing superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) enzyme activity.

Research Notes

Preclinical studies on L. rhinocerus beta-glucan fractions demonstrated significant enhancement of macrophage phagocytic activity, NK cell cytotoxicity, and T-cell proliferation. Antioxidant studies confirmed scavenging of reactive oxygen species and enhanced endogenous antioxidant enzyme activity. Clinical evidence from human supplementation trials supports improved respiratory function and immune parameters over 4–12 week supplementation periods.
