AI-Powered Features in HerbOS

HerbOS integrates artificial intelligence in specific, clearly defined areas of the platform. We believe transparency about where and how AI is used is essential to building trust.

AI Chatbot

Our educational herb chatbot is powered by Anthropic's Claude AI models. It provides conversational access to herb information, traditional uses, and general educational content. The chatbot does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment recommendations.

AI SOAP Note Drafter

Available exclusively to verified practitioners, the SOAP note drafter uses AI to assist with clinical documentation. It generates draft notes based on practitioner input, which must be reviewed and finalized by the practitioner before saving. The AI does not make clinical decisions.

Interaction Checker

The herb-drug interaction checker is not AI-powered. It uses a curated, algorithmically matched database of 834+ known herb-drug interactions compiled from peer-reviewed literature. Results are deterministic and reproducible, not generated by a language model.

Research Feed Aggregation

The research feed automatically aggregates articles from PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov. While the collection process is automated, the content itself comes directly from published scientific sources and is not AI-generated or summarized by AI.

Technology Provider

HerbOS's AI features are powered by Anthropic's Claude large language models.

  • No training on your data. Your conversations, prompts, and responses are never used to train or fine-tune Anthropic's AI models.
  • No storage by Anthropic. Conversations are processed in real-time by Anthropic's API and are not retained on their servers after processing.
  • HerbOS retains conversation data. We store your AI conversation history on our servers so you can access your past interactions. This data is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Data Handling

We take a privacy-first approach to AI data handling:

  • AI conversations are processed in real-time and not retained by our AI provider after processing is complete.
  • Your prompts and AI responses are stored on HerbOS servers for your conversation history and can be deleted upon request.
  • Practice and clinical data is never shared with AI providers in identifiable form. SOAP note drafting strips or anonymizes patient identifiers before processing.
  • AI features can be avoided entirely. All core features of HerbOS — the herb library, interaction checker, research feed, protocol tracker, and practice management tools — work fully without AI.

Opt-Out Options

You are never required to use AI-powered features. Here are your options:

  • Skip the AI chatbot. All herb data is available directly through the searchable herb database of 568+ monographs. The chatbot is a convenience, not a requirement.
  • Write SOAP notes manually. The SOAP note drafter is an optional assistant. Practitioners can create and save clinical notes without AI involvement.
  • Delete AI conversation history. Contact support@herbos.app to request deletion of your stored AI conversation data.

EU AI Act Compliance

HerbOS's AI features are classified as limited-risk AI systems under the EU AI Act. Users are clearly informed when they are interacting with AI-generated content. No high-risk AI decision-making is performed by HerbOS — the platform does not make autonomous clinical, diagnostic, or treatment decisions.
