Dictyophorine A

Preliminary

Mechanism of Action

Stimulates nerve growth factor (NGF) synthesis and secretion from astroglial cells. Dictyophorine A enhanced NGF synthesis approximately four-fold in treated rat astroglial cells, promoting neuronal differentiation and survival through TrkA receptor-mediated signaling cascades including the MAPK/ERK and PI3K/Akt pathways.

Research Notes

Isolated and characterized by Kawagishi et al. (1997) from Dictyophora indusiata fruiting bodies. In vitro studies using rat astroglial cell cultures demonstrated significant dose-dependent NGF-inducing activity. The compound represents a rare non-polysaccharide neuroactive metabolite from an edible mushroom. Further neurotrophic studies remain at the in vitro stage.
