Sparassol
In vitroMechanism of Action
Research Notes
Woodward et al. (1993) first characterized sparassol as an antifungal metabolite. Subsequent screening confirmed antibacterial activity against several Gram-positive species. Anti-inflammatory activity has been demonstrated in cell-based assays. Evidence is entirely in vitro; sparassol concentration in the fruiting body is relatively low and its contribution to whole-mushroom medicinal effects is considered secondary to beta-glucan.
