Long-chain fatty acid esters (C20–C24 fraction)

Animal

Mechanism of Action

This unique ester fraction, comprising behenic, icosanoic, and lignoceric acid derivatives, is believed to act as a neural membrane modulator, supporting myelin integrity and neuronal membrane fluidity. Mechanism proposed on the basis of structural similarity to nerve-growth-supporting lipid fractions in other neurotrophic plants.

Research Notes

Muira PuamaSouth American

The long-chain fatty acid ester fraction is selectively extracted by alcohol solvents and is absent or greatly reduced in aqueous preparations. Preclinical work from the University of São Paulo suggests this fraction contributes to the nerve-trophic and anti-fatigue effects observed in animal swim tests. No isolate-specific human clinical data exist; efficacy evidence is inferred from whole extract studies.
