Ligustilide
ObservationalMechanism of Action
Research Notes
Ligustilide demonstrates spasmolytic activity comparable to papaverine. Animal models show improved microcirculation and blood flow.
Ligustilide exhibits potent vasodilatory effects through multiple mechanisms including prostaglandin-like signaling and direct smooth muscle relaxation. Used in Asia for menopausal symptoms and dysmenorrhea; Western clinical evidence limited.
Primary bioactive phthalide with documented antispasmodic and smooth muscle-relaxing activity. Also present in related Ligusticum and Angelica species.
