Horseradish peroxidase (HRP)

In vitro

Mechanism of Action

Catalyzes H2O2-dependent oxidation of phenolic substrates generating antimicrobial reactive oxygen species; pro-apoptotic in tumor cell models when co-administered with indole-3-acetic acid (prodrug activation); extensive diagnostic utility as reporter enzyme in ELISA and immunohistochemistry; contributes to traditional topical antiseptic applications

Research Notes

HRP-mediated cancer cell cytotoxicity via AITC + indole-3-acetic acid combinations demonstrated in glioblastoma, breast, and colorectal cell lines in vitro. Diagnostic applications are extensively validated but represent a distinct use from herbal medicinal activity. AITC's antimicrobial contribution to therapeutic effects is primary.
