Eburicoic acid
In vitroMechanism of Action
Research Notes
Eburicoic acid has been isolated from multiple Fomitopsis species and is one of the primary triterpenoids quantified in bioassay-guided antiviral fractionation of Agarikon. In vitro studies demonstrate inhibition of herpes simplex virus 1 and 2, influenza A, and poxvirus surrogates. Anti-inflammatory activity confirmed in LPS-stimulated macrophage models with IC50 values superior to several standard reference compounds. No clinical human data.
In vivo studies demonstrated hepatoprotective effects in acute liver damage mouse models with significant reduction in serum transaminases (ALT, AST) and histological liver damage scores. Network pharmacology analysis of the Poria-Licorice herbal pair identified eburicoic acid as a key synergistic component. Anti-inflammatory activity confirmed in multiple acute and chronic inflammation models. No human clinical trials on isolated eburicoic acid.
