Conduritol A (Cyclitol)

In vitro

Mechanism of Action

Inositol-related cyclitol with alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity, potentially contributing mild postprandial glucose-lowering effects; also implicated in neurological toxicity of the Apocynaceae family (conduritol epoxide inhibits glucocerebrosidase)

Research Notes

CondurangoSouth American

Alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity demonstrated in vitro. Neurological toxicity concerns derive from the epoxide form (conduritol B epoxide), used as a research tool for Gaucher disease models. Clinical significance of the cyclitol in standard condurango preparations is uncertain.
