Calcium Phosphate (Hydroxyapatite)

Preliminary

Mechanism of Action

Calcium ions modulate neuronal excitability, NMDA receptor function, and inhibitory GABA-A receptor activity. Hydroxyapatite structure provides slow-release calcium in the GI environment. Topically, calcium phosphate provides scaffolding for wound healing and promotes osteoblast and fibroblast activity.

Research Notes

Long Gu preparations demonstrate sedative effects in multiple animal models: prolonged pentobarbital sleeping time, reduced spontaneous locomotor activity, and inhibited pentylenetetrazole-induced seizures. Calcium phosphate nanoparticles studied extensively in bone tissue engineering. Antiseizure effects of fossil bone preparations corroborated in rat kindling models.
