Aconitine → Benzoylaconine → Aconine

Meta-analysis

Mechanism of Action

Persistent Na+ channel activation → arrhythmia/cardiotoxicity; analgesic via Na+ channel modulation; anti-inflammatory. Processing converts toxic aconitine to less toxic derivatives

Research Notes

Raw aconitine LD50 ~0.1 mg/kg (extremely toxic). Processing (boiling/steaming) hydrolyses to benzoylaconine (100x less toxic) then aconine (1000x less toxic). Extended decoction critical for safety. Anti-inflammatory and analgesic in processed form.
